Tina Louise
Elmore-Wright not only has fifteen years experience in
Ayurvedic and synergistic aromatherapy - but a lifetime of herbal and
natural healing ! Many friends, family and co-workers have enjoyed
participating in her projects while she refined her skills.
Professionally, she was the department manager of a large holistic clinic and was involved in the research and development of Ayurvedic therapies and patient protocol. Her responsibilities included patient education and the formulation of blended oils and poultices for individual treatments. Additionally she imported, and cleared through customs, difficult to obtain Ayurvedic pharmaceuticals.
She apprenticed full
time for over three years
in the medicinal application of Ayurveda
and has learned to appreciate other holistic modalities. The knowledge
that many overlap, not just mimic each other, has proven useful when
cross-referencing
botanical and common names. Her research on
the history of the spice trade and early navigation (including how the
America's were "discovered") validated how many traditional medicines
use the same herbs
and oils under different names according to the region.
Prior to her involvement in alternative medicine, she worked several years for two major hospitals in their cardio-pulmonary departments and trained in diagnostic ultrasound.
During her childhood years, she and her parents lived without modern amenities such as electricity, running water or telephone. They built a home from the trees they cut and homesteaded the land. Her mother cooked by wood stove and used an antique icebox for refrigeration. Oil lanterns provided light for many evening baths with water warmed by fire. Nearby, other family members were sharing a similar rustic lifestyle; and she gives credit to this for her interest in folk and simplistic therapies.
Several years ago she
began tracing her family's Native American heritage. Her husband,
Greg, who is Seminole and Choctaw
by birth, has further strengthened this search. Recent contact
with a lost cousin has revealed Lakota lineage, and together with her
cousin's help; she hopes to rekindle family ties.
She was the host and
organizer of holistic trade
shows,
workshops and seminars for six years (1995-2001) and has been
interviewed on radio and television.
Currently, she is very active helping and participating in local Pow
Wow festivals, particularly those hosted on the Cox-Osceola Seminole
Reservation, where she and her husband were married.
Nearly ten years ago,
she
moved to Levy County to renew
her
family history of rural remedies and eco-friendly lifestyle.
This included spending two years at home educating her teenage son, now
enrolled at the University of Florida. Together with her husband, they
operate the local feed store where she has a small corner dedicated to
her products and offers private consultations. On their small farm you
will find an assortment of
free-range chickens, turkeys, hogs, goats, sheep, a miniature paint
pony, a really, really
large
dog and his "brother" - a cat.
She has worked on a grant program for the University of Florida at the Levy County Extension Office as a Family Nutrition Program Assistant. A few years ago, she passed the exam making her eligible to work as a substitute teacher in the Levy County School system.
She has offered advice
on projects at ARC and O2B
Kids in Gainesville and
currently instructs at Central Florida Community College - Levy Campus
and Santa Fe Community College - Davis Center and Main Campus.
On occasion, she has done programs for the Alachua County Library at
both their Tower Road and the Archer Branch locations. Additionally,
she can be found on the University of Florida campus - Reitz Union,
teaching classes there or by private arrangement. Recently, she founded
the Indigo Lotus School of Natural Studies and will be offering
certification classes in several areas of holistic living.
Many of the ingredients
for these classes are from
the family farm
located in Archer, Florida or from local Farmer's Markets when
possible. In addition to the whole food ingredients, she uses
only the finest and
purest of essential oils and herbs from a variety of resources to
assure the best possible results for your final product.
Although her life experiences have certainly
enhanced her knowledge,
her greatest inspiration has been family, friends and the
humble acceptance that without God the Creator,
none of this would be possible.
